Seller Insight

We first moved here over 20 years ago and fell in love with everything about the village. A couple of years later we spotted Little Bowlings and snapped it up. It’s a very welcoming house and the location is perfect; we’ve got fields on one side and the village centre on the other. It’s just a really lovely place to be.

We’ve done quite a bit of work to extend and brighten the house to make the most of the wonderful garden. We now spend most of our time in the conservatory – it feels like being in the garden all year round. The snug is really cosy with the log burner on, perfect for a quiet moment reading with a cup of coffee, and it’s not too much of a commute to the kettle! The sitting room is our evening retreat, it’s a lovely restful room, warm in winter and cool in the summer.

We love to entertain, especially in the summer when we’ll have friends round, drinking wine by the fire pit with people wandering in and out of the house. We’ve always had trouble getting people to go home, they don’t seem to want to leave!

Sherfield on Loddon is a lovely, vibrant village and quite active. It’s a welcoming little place – people are friendly, so it’s easy to make friends for anyone who wants to get involved. There’s a very strong sense of community here; during lockdown, residents collaborated with the village shop and pubs to support our elderly neighbours. People with allotments brought vegetables and flowers to those who were isolating for health reasons. It brought us closer as a community and that’s still the case today.

The village store here is a revelation, it’s like they’ve got the very best of a supermarket in that little space – the butcher counter is especially good. We have two pubs in the village, both offer great food. The Four Horseshoes is probably our favourite, the pub has a great jazz night and they do wonderful Thai food, including to take-away.

We have several annual events, all very well attended. The autumn show has produce, crafts and talent shows. The beer festival is held in the village hall and out on to the village green, they also host a Proms night and we have the summer village fete.

Sherfield school is very close by and very sought after. It goes from nursery all the way through A-levels. We also love the walks around here, with or without the dogs. There are so many footpaths through the surrounding countryside and of course we have the village green and cricket field close by.

We’ve moved a lot over the years, but we’ve been in this house by far the longest – 20 years now. Although we’ve moved we’re still in the village, why leave?! We’re very excited to see who moves in and what they do to the house to make it their own. Undoubtedly, they’ll love the village, it’s a wonderful place to live.
